¨ Due to state budget cuts, the Power Library databases have been changed. The following EBSCOHost databases are no longer available: MasterFILE Premier, Business Source Premier, MAS Ultra—School Edition, Middle Search Plus, Primary Search, Newspaper Source, Teacher Reference Center and Auto Repair Reference Center. The following are the new databases: General Periodical Resources, Newspaper Resources, Business Resources, Contemporary Authors, and AP Photo Archive. There may be interruptions in the accessibility of Power Library as these changes are made.
¨ The library’s Board of Trustees is looking for a new member. If you live in the Northampton School District and are interested, please contact Mary Beller at the library, 610-262-7537.
¨ The Friends of NAPL have purchased a disc repair machine for the library! As a service to our patrons, we are willing to clean and repair your music CDs, DVDs, Books on CD, CD-ROMs, or system games for a donation of $2 each, limit 5 discs per month per patron. For more information, ask any library staff member.
¨ The Friends of NAPL are still selling t-shirts with the 2009 Summer Reading program theme, “Be Creative @ Your Library”. Click here for more information.
¨ The library’s next Stitch-In will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd, at 6:30 PM. Click here for more information.
¨ 6:30 and a Book will be meeting on February 24th. The book for that discussion will be “The Secret Life of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd. Click here for more information.
¨ The next meeting of the Civil War Discussion Group will be held on Wednesday, February 24th at 6:30 PM. The group is FREE and open to the public. No pre-registration is required. For further information, contact Dick Stewart at (610) 261-4331.
¨ The next Friends of NAPL meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:00 PM.
¨ The library and the Friends of NAPL are selling the following items: “If You Give a Mouse a Book” long sleeve t-shirts are $15 for adults and $12 for children; “If You Give a Mouse a Book” short sleeve t-shirts are $10 for adults (we are out of children’s sizes); library miniatures are $15; Discount Savings Cards are $2 each; NAPL zippered tote bags are $5 each; and Gertrude Hawk candy bars are $1 each. NEW CAREER RESOURCE AVAILABLE Career Help PA from Tutor.com offers adults one-to-one help from certified tutors and career specialists online to any community member with a valid library card. Get help with your resume, interviewing skills and more. Adults may also connect to a tutor for help with school work, preparing for the GED, or the citizenship test. The live, online tutoring and resume writing service is available seven days a week from 9 AM to 9 PM. The service is completely free for our community thanks to a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office of Commonwealth Libraries. For more information contact the library.
