Rise Up Reading Family Storytime

“Rise Up Reading,” a family storytime, was held on Tuesday, November 13 to celebrate Children’s Book Week.  Families gathered for a reading of “Cows Can’t Fly” and “Lettice, the Flying Rabbit.”

Children participated in a game of “Fox and Squirrel.”   Then everyone made super flying paper airplanes and piloted their planes.

UP, DOWN, AND AROUND FAMILY STORYTIME AND

The library participated in a state collaborative project highlighting the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers.  The “Up, Down and Around” Family Storytime was held on April 17th.  Families gathered for a reading of the story, which was written by Katherine Ayres.  The children discussed their favorite vegetables and other food to eat on a picnic.  They also sorted vegetables that grow up, down, or around and counted a variety of animals and insects on pages of the book.  Afterwards, families made seed collages of insects to take home along with each child receiving their own copy of the book.

LOCAL AUTHOR VISIT

Children and families living in the Northampton Area School District are invited to celebrate "Children's Book Week" by meeting Salome Kingsley, author of Two Wishes for Natty’s Birthday, on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Northampton Area Public Library.

Ms. Kingsley is a local author, living in the Lehigh Valley for over thirty-five years.  In addition to writing Two Wishes for Natty’s Birthday, she has written poems, short stories and music.  Come to the library to hear what inspired Salome to begin writing and the process of writing and publishing a book.  She will sign books that will be available for purchase along with free balloons and bookmarks while supplies last.

Registration for the author visit will begin in the library on Monday, April 28 at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the program is filled.  If you have any questions, please call the library at 610-262-7537.

NATIONAL TURN OFF THE TV WEEK FAMILY CRAFT NIGHT

To celebrate National Turn Off the TV Week, the library held a Family Craft Night on April 24th offering a creative, enjoyable alternative.  Children and families made spring scenes of flowers, gardens, and bugs from a variety of materials on hand.  Take a look at some of the artwork for the evening!
