Emily E. (Cataloger)

Genres:  Literary fiction, social and political non-fiction, graphic novels, anything weird

Why? I enjoy fiction that an author intends for critical analysis, where there's an opportunity for me to examine a novel based on tone, style, theme, and word choice.  It allows ne to connect more fully to a text, and I usually end up jotting down interpretations in the margins (not in library books, obviously!).  I like non-fiction that provides a thoughtful analysis and perspective on history or politics.  I'm also drawn to books written with a wry, witty tone or novels that have a main character with those traits.  By no means is this an exhaustive list of what I read - I'll usually try anything weird out of a deep love for things unique and different.  Oh, and Harry Potter.

My top 5 books

  1. "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood (F Atw)
  2. "Dark Money: the hidden history of the billionaires behind the rise of the radical right " by Jane Mayer (NF 324.273 May)
  3. "Special topics in Calamity physics" by Marisha Pessl (F Pes)
  4. "Nimona" by Noelle Stephenson (YA Ste) - graphic novel
  5. "The picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde (F Wil)
