During the month of April, libraries and other organizations throughout Pennsylvania celebrate and participate in the Pennsylvania One Book program, a reading initiative that was developed to promote the value and benefits of reading early and often to preschoolers and to encourage family bonding through books and reading. Each year, a different children’s picture book is chosen to be highlighted. This year, the program features Saturday by Oge Mora.

In this heartfelt and universal story, a mother and daughter look forward to their special Saturday routine together every single week. But this Saturday, one thing after another goes wrong–ruining storytime, salon time, picnic time, and the puppet show they’d been looking forward to going to all week. Mom is nearing a meltdown…until her loving daughter reminds her that being together is the most important thing of all.

Oge Mora, acclaimed author and Caldecott Award winning illustrator of the 2022 book selection, Saturday, will speak virtually to children across the state. During this event, Ms. Mora will talk about her work as a storyteller and answer questions from librarians, teachers, and students alike. Registration is free and questions may be submitted in advance on the PA One Book web page (https://paonebook.powerlibrary.org/).

Please consider joining us for this event in the Community Room in person, or if you feel more comfortable stay at home and join the virtual visit for free. To attend virtually, register at the link above. If you are considering attending in person, please register in the form below.

Funding for this project was provided in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by Pennsylvania's Office of Commonwealth Libraries. Additional funding was provided by the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development.
